International Mobility

The Portugal Golden Visa — also known as the golden passport, a form of residency and citizenship by investment —, residence permits, naturalization and complete immigration planning, with full support before the competent authorities (AIMA, in Portugal).

We guide every stage of your mobility process, from choosing the best residence route to obtaining citizenship. We coordinate the paperwork, requirements, cost and liaison with the authorities across countries — in Portugal, with AIMA, which replaced the former SEF.

The Portugal Golden Visa remains one of the most solid gateways to Europe. After real estate was removed from the eligible routes, other options such as investment funds came to the fore. As golden visa lawyers, we structure the eligible investment, prepare the application and support renewal through to permanent residence and citizenship.

International mobility is far more than a visa application: it is a life decision involving your family, your wealth and your long-term plans. That is why, before starting any process, we begin by understanding your real goal — to reside, to invest, to secure a plan B or to open a path to citizenship.

From that diagnosis, we choose the most suitable route and coordinate the entire execution: documents, deadlines and liaison with the competent authorities. The conditions and requirements of each programme are set by the law in force and may change, so we always confirm the current framework that applies to your case.

Golden Visa or another visa? (D7 and D8)

The Golden Visa is not the only path to living in Portugal — and it is not always the most suitable. For those with passive income (pensions, dividends, rentals), the D7 visa tends to be the natural route; for remote workers with a foreign employer or clients, there is the digital nomad visa (D8). The Golden Visa stands out for requiring an investment and only a minimal presence in the country.

The right choice depends on your profile, your income and your goals — and the requirements (including each visa's minimum income thresholds) are set by law and updated periodically. We help you compare the options and choose the one that fits your case.

AIMA and the processing times

Since 2023, residence applications are no longer handled by the SEF but by AIMA (the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum). This transition brought, in many cases, waiting times and biometrics appointments that are worth anticipating realistically.

Our role is to manage that liaison for you: organising the documentation to avoid avoidable delays, following up on appointments and keeping the process moving. We do not promise timelines we do not control — we give you an honest expectation and handle what is within our reach.

The Golden Visa routes in detail

After the 2023 reform removed real estate, the Golden Visa came to rest on other routes. The most sought-after is CMVM-regulated investment funds, which generally have a minimum maturity and a relevant share invested in companies based in Portugal. There are also routes such as job creation and support for cultural activities (which includes a donation option).

Each route has its own minimum amount and requirements, set by law and subject to revision. We always confirm the amounts and conditions in force before recommending a route — and we structure the investment so that it is both eligible and aligned with your goals.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Golden Visa (golden passport)?

It is Portugal's residency-by-investment programme — sometimes called a golden passport: it grants a residence permit in exchange for an eligible investment, with a possible path to permanent residence and, later, citizenship by investment. The routes and conditions are set by the law in force — we confirm the current framework for your case.

What are the requirements and cost?

Requirements and the minimum investment depend on the chosen route (for example, investment funds) and are set by law, which may be revised. As amounts change, we confirm the figures in force for your case before any decision.

Which routes are available now?

After real estate was removed (2023 reform), routes such as CMVM-regulated investment funds came to the fore, alongside others like job creation or cultural support. The right route depends on your profile and goals.

Do I need to live in the country full-time?

Residency-by-investment programmes generally require only a minimum presence, but the exact requirements depend on the programme and the moment. We assess your availability and design the right plan.

Who handles the application in Portugal?

Applications are currently handled by AIMA (the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum), which replaced the former SEF. We support the entire process before the competent authorities.

Is the Portugal Golden Visa still available?

Yes. The 2023 reform removed real estate from the eligible routes, but the programme continues through other routes such as investment funds. We always confirm the current framework before proceeding.

What are the new Portugal Golden Visa rules?

The main change was the removal of real estate from the eligible routes (2023 reform). Routes such as CMVM-regulated investment funds, job creation and cultural support remain, with low stay requirements. The rules are set by law and may change.
